Canvas and Tent started back in 1968 and is to this day considered a pioneer in the tent manufacture industry worldwide. Originally focussing on the South African military market, it became clear that to stay relevant in the landscape post-1994, we needed to adapt and diversify our product offering. With an ever-shrinking military budget, sustaining our factory and our locally employed people, it became vital to pursue other opportunities and market sectors.
We redesigned our factory and commercialized some of our military-type tents e.g. the Chopper Tents, originally designed in 1972, and introduced a safari range of canvas products well suited for the tourism market, both locally and for Africa. In order to adapt materials and designs to withstand the harshness and elements of the African environment, design teams were appointed and state-of-the-art equipment installed to ensure that quality, durable products are manufactured. Quality begins with processes and systems and Canvas and Tent introduced ISO 9001 and ISO 14000, two major international standards that specify the requirements for a quality management system. We use these standards to demonstrate our ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
